The rendered three pie charts depict the global food consumption in 2008 is represented by three different pie charts, with China and India depicted separately.
In an overview, Chinese people consumed majorly vegetables and fruits, while Indians mostly consumed processed food in the year 2008. Interestingly, the highest proportion of world population also had a preference for processed food.
It is evident that processed food was the most consumed category both globally and particularly in China and India also. In 2008, processed food accounted for about 41% of global diets, with a larger share in India as compared to China. The global population consumed 29% of fruits and vegetables on average, compared to 32% in China and 23% in India.
Examining further, the third most popular category was animal-derived foods, with India consuming more of them than the rest of the world combined, noted to be 27%. Surprisingly, China and India consumed more nuts and seeds than the world did, recorded to be 19% and 11% respectively. Conversely, Indians consumed more animal products than Chinese, while Chinese people consumed more fruits, vegetables, and seeds.
