The rendered tabular chart depicts the underground rail network’s opening date, route length, and annual passenger volume in millions for London, Paris, Tokyo, Washington, DC, Kyoto, and Los Angeles.

Overall, it is clear that London witnessed the inauguration of the first underground railway system. However, Kyoto had the least passenger count annually and shortest railway route.

To begin with, the Kyoto underground railway system had only 11 kilometres of the route when it was opened in 1981 as compared to the 394 kilometres of the first underground railway system in London, which was the longest route. Paris’ underground railway system was established in 1900, Tokyo’s in 1927, Washington DC’s in 1976, and Los Angeles’ in 2001, with a total of 199, 155, 126, and 28 kilometres of route, respectively.

Examining further, the number of passengers in Kyoto accounts to be 45 million which is the least among all countries, while Tokyo has the maximum number of passengers travelling by train, constituted to be 1927 million. The second-highest number of passengers were recorded in Paris with 1191 million. 144 million travellers prefer railway each year in Washington DC, placing it fourth overall. Interestingly, residents of Los Angeles and Kyoto have less preference for railway, constituted to be 50 and 45 sequentially.
